Considerations
A lower content of animal proteins in dog food offers many advantages. These days, there exists and is even a greater danger for domesticated dogs with excess intake of animal proteins than with a deficiency. A dog's organism is not optimally adapted to process an excessive amount of proteins, as can happen with a monotonous diet rich mostly in muscle meat, like beef. Long-term excessive intake of protein can negatively affect the metabolism of the four-legged friend, especially kidney function. This can often be recognized by symptoms such as itching, red spots on the skin (paws), and hair loss. However, it is important to stress that these symptoms can have other causes as well.
