Sheepskin Warms in Winter, Cools in Summer

100% natural sheepskin is a versatile, convenient, and natural thermal insulation blanket or mat for dogs. It is an extremely popular and practical addition to a dog bed or can simply be placed on the floor, maybe on a couch, bed... where it will serve as a resting place for dogs or cats. We especially recommend it for older dogs and dogs recovering from surgeries.

The sheepskin from Domačija Hvalc will naturally cool your dog in the summer and warm in the winter. The fact that it is a natural thermal insulator is impressive to everyone, especially since dogs have a harder time regulating their body temperature compared to humans. Dogs find it harder to warm up and cool down as they do not sweat but regulate their body temperature by breathing and sweating through their paws.

Organic farming of the top French sheep breed “île de France” from the pristine nature of Kozjansko in Slovenia. The quality of wool provided by this breed is on the level of highly valued merino wool.

Size: approx. 100 cm x 70 cm

Color: natural white/beige

To maintain the thermal insulating properties and beautiful appearance of the sheepskin, it needs to be cared for and nurtured.

How?

  • Just like other materials and fabrics, dust will accumulate on the sheepskin, so it needs regular "beating" and occasional exposure to sun. Otherwise, dust mites will accumulate, which we do not want.
  • Home cleaning methods are certainly welcome (shaking, vacuuming, gentle brushing, etc.), but it is important to note that the skin should never be wetted. If the sheepskin still needs thorough cleaning, we advise you to take it to a dry cleaner or contact a leatherworker to refresh it properly.
  • You can use special carpet detergents, but we do not recommend them as it is difficult to ensure that the liquid does not reach the skin and remains solely on the bristles/fur. You must also be careful that the sheepskin dries as naturally as possible, at room temperature, near a stove, or in the sun. This way it will retain its thermal insulation properties.
  • Many simply throw the sheepskin in the washing machine on a gentle wool program, but manufacturers do not recommend this. Too much moisture causes the sheepskin to lose its quality and deform.
