Consideration
A lower content of animal proteins in a dog's diet brings several advantages. Nowadays, there is even a greater risk for a domestic dog from an excess intake of animal proteins than from a deficiency. The dog's body is not optimally adapted to processing excessive amounts of proteins, as might occur with a monotonous diet rich mainly in muscle meat, such as beef. Long-term excessive protein intake can negatively affect the metabolism of a four-legged friend, especially kidney function. This can often be recognized by symptoms such as itching, red spots on the skin (paws), and hair loss. However, it should be emphasized that these symptoms may have other causes as well.
